Magnesium is a silver-white light metal that looks very similar to aluminum, but is harder and lighter than aluminum. The density of magnesium metal (1.74 g/cm 3) is only two-thirds that of aluminum (2.7 g/cm 3). The main use of the metal magnesium is to make alloys.
